It is with regret we announce the passing of Dickie Jobson who died in Kingston Jamaica December 25th. We express our condolences to the family.

The Jamaica Film Academy had honoured Dickie Jobson at the February 2008 staging of the first Reggae Film
Festival and screened his 1970s feature film “Countryman” in one of its rare Jamaican showings.
Dickie Jobson was a friend and business associate of film makers Perry Henzell and Chris Blackwell,
so it was no surprise when he ventured into film production with the romantic drama “Countryman” –
one of the early efforts to continue the progressive move to indigenous feature film production established
by “The Harder They Come”. The “Countryman” story of two American tourists cast away on the Hellshire beach
where real-life fisherman Countryman lives, and the adventures that follow as police pursue them as suspected
drug exporters, was typical of the 70’s era when Jamaica was viewed simply as a tropical paradise with an
interesting culture. It’s famous scene when Countryman cooks a several course Jamaican meal on an outdoor
fire and the delight the visitors express as they taste each new food surprise, has become a classic.

Remembering Gary Cordozo

Gary had a wonderful send off. He and his wife Marg (a Canadian) planned his funeral as if
he were planning a function. I hear it was detailed and there were even some surprises that
Gary had asked the minister to announce at the funeral itself where he asked that the white
roses from his casket be handed out to his special aunts. Gary fought a fight that I never
thought was possible. He was determined not to let any of us feel sorry for his plight.
He always had a good thing to say and even when he could not speak or eat he would give us his wink.
The doctors had him gone many times but Gary had a reason and he found the time was eventually right for him.
Even then he waited until it was just his wife and himself and quietly passed away. He was one never to
leave a guest as long as they were with him, they had his attention. Gary took up fishing with a passion
and spent many Saturdays with friends on the lake bringing in big catches that he would insist on eating.
His poor wife had to get over the eyes part of it. LOLOLOL. He also had a dog called Missy who he rescued
from its abusive owners and it became his passion along with his garden. Gary was a hidden gem and we
sadly miss him. His 52nd birthday was on November 29.
The first picture is Gary at his 51st birthday, shortly after his diagnosis, the 2nd photo is of our
family Neville father, Michele, Robin with Robin’s children.
Regards,
Michele-Ann Cardozo

Whylie Lopez - pianist of jazz fame passed away Sunday November 9/08 in Cayman Islands where he has lived for the past years. Mr. Lopez was 96 years old. He leaves behind wife Edna; sons 'Chunky' Lopez of Caymans Golf Club, Chris and many many more relatives and friends.
Hartley Neita, writing in the June 10 issue of The Gleaner, richly recalled the Kingston’s dance band scene in his article “Dancing in Clubs of Yesteryear”. Many familiar names from mento and other less familiar names were remembered by Harltey.
During the 1940s and 1950s, there were at least twelve night clubs in the Corporate Area which featured live orchestral music some for two nights (at week ends); others up to six nights weekly.
These orchestras were of various sizes from trios led by Frankie Bonnitto, to twelve-man bands led by Roy Coburn, Eric Deans, and Ivy Graydon. The latter, the only female dance-band musician at the time, played at Springfield in eastern Kingston. Coburn led a jazz dance band at the Bournemouth, also in eastern Kingston, while Deans played at the Colony in Cross Roads. Other bands included Whylie Lopez, George Moxey, Milton McPherson, Baba Motta, Cliff Beckford, Redver Cooke, Baron Lewis and Don Hitchman. Sonny Bradshaw's sessions at Silver Slipper in Cross Roads brought out the teen-age crowd with their jitterbugging, buggy-riding and other dance steps of the time.
"Real joy comes not from ease or riches or from the praise of men, but from doing something worthwhile."

Robert Bobby Rickards

Rickards, Robert (Bob)
Beloved son of Barbara and the late Owen Rickards, born September 19, 1950, died September 13, 2008, leaving daughter Megan; wife Carol; sisters Carol Cooper; Loraine Rickard-Martin; twin Cecile Travis; Donna Noble; brother Michael; sister-in-law Colleen Rickards; grand-niece Kaylee Cooper; brothers-in-law Paul Noble, Mark Travis, and David Martin. Memorial service at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, September 17, 2008, at Kraeer Funeral Home, 200 North Federal Highway, Pompano Beach, FL. 33062, tel. 954-941-4111; in lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in Bob's memory to Vitas Innovative Hospice Care, 5420 N.W. 33rd Avenue, Suite 100, Fort Lauderdale, FL. 33309, tel. 954-486-4085.
--------------------------------------------------------
To Robert Rickards (Bob)
Our darling Bob, you were as sweet, funny, and serene to the end as you were throughout your life. No one could have ever wished for more in a son, brother or father: loving, loyal, generous, funny (oh so funny), a laid-back sense of humour that was irresistible to all who knew and loved you. You always worked hard, but you knew how to have fun and could kick back with the best of them at day’s end. You loved reggae and country; you loved to dance; your dog Boomer gave you such joy; and you loved life. For you, life wasn’t about fame or fortune -- superficial things had no meaning. You had in abundance the qualities of as fine a human being as ever walked the planet: honesty, integrity, keen intellect, responsibility, kindness and caring. Bob, you brought us such joy and laughter, and you broke our hearts when you left. Sleep well, our Little Prince. We will love you forever.
“In one of the stars, I shall be living.
In one of them, I shall be laughing.
And so it will be as if all the stars were laughing when you look at the sky at night.
~ The Little Prince, Antoine de Saint-Exupery.”
-------------------------------------------------------
"Bob Rickards could drive a Masserati and an old sprinkler
truck with the same pride and style. He was the best. I love you, Bob."
Thanks and best Loraine Rickard-Martin
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Bobby passed away peacefully on Sept. 13 2008 after a brief illness with
cancer. He would have been 58 on Sept. 19th.
Bobby was kind, gentle, and laid-back with a great sense of humour, which
kept him going to the end, that is how he would want his family and friends
to remember him.
On behalf of my family, thank you for your cards and kind words and for
remembering Bob. It has been a great comfort for us.
An excerpt from the sermon at the memorial service held in Pompano Beach,
Florida recently:
Irish Journey Blessing:
"May the road rise up to meet you,
The wind be always at your back and may God
Keep you in the palm of his hand
Until we meet again."
Bobby, you'll be in our hearts, forever.
Donna Noble

I grew up with Bobby and I consider him a true brethren. I remember the days with Bobby
and 'Puff' Shaw, Abdulla and Gregory Marzouca, Johnny Abbott, Robert Rae, Anthony 'Tait'
Harris and others. - growing up in Jamaica in those days were great, doing it with Bobby
made it even better. I will sorely miss him but the momories will always stay with me.

Prince Celli, Celli Mah, Mr. Mah or just Celli. What a character. Celli was my former partner in NCM Advertising in Kingston. We fought over many issues during our collaboration at NCM but in later years when I moved to Canada, we became friends. We had many visits here in Toronto and worked on a number of projects together. Always interesting, always fun. I will miss our visits. May God bless him now. I'm sorry I wasn't able to attend the services. My condolences go out to all his family and loved ones.

Celli Mah-
What a talent!
What a character!
I met Celli many years ago at Emmet Park and he encouraged me to join the St. Georges' Old Boys to play cricket and football. I did join and that certainly changed the course of my life and others, as it was at the old boys' football matches that I encouraged teammate Byron Lee to form an official band, The Dragonaires, from our small footballer group that made music in the locker room after the matches.
Later on when Celli returned to Jamaica from a brilliant career in England, he inspired me to join him, along with Darryl Crawford, to form NCM Advertising Agency. We were a formidable team and Celli's creative excellence played a big part in the agency's accummulation of advertising awards. Celli was a hard worker, a harder player and a great host...he made sure that no one would ever forget our NCM Christmas parties at 3 West Kings House!
I always stayed in contact with Celli since leaving Jamaica in '98, speaking with him only a week before he died to discuss his attending the Georges' reunion in Miami next month. I'm really sorry he won't be there....but we will all meet again in that lovely place up there.
Celli will be missed. May his soul rest in peace.

A TRIBUTE TO
MRS DOROTHY TATE
DECEMBER 21,1915
DIED MARCH 11,2008
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Mrs.
Dorothy Tate (nee Richards) which took place in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on
March 11, 2008.
Dorothy was pre-deceased by her husband, Herbert H. Tate and son Derek.
One could not help but be drawn by her magnetism, she had such a peaceful
and spirutal aura radiating from her at all times. She was the pillar of our
family and was the most loving and forgiving person you'd hope to meet. She
loved her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, her nieces, nephews
and her sisters and brothers unconditionally. She supported and cared for
many of us when we were down, sick or in a life transitions, in any way she
could. She also offered great support, prayers and care for those that have gone
before her. She taught us by her actions that it was better to give than
receive and that there is always good in the worst of us. To know her was to
love her. She often quoted and lived by the words -"God is in every tomorrow,
therefore I live for today" Mom, we love you and will cherish our memories
forever. You have certainly, here on Earth, earned a place with him in
Heaven. You have lived your every Today and you are now in God's tomorrow.

A TRIBUTE TO
MRS. LAURICE ZACCA, 1920-2008
It is with regret and sadness that we announce the passing of MRS. LAURICE ZACCA (Nee Hanna)
which took place in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on March 7, 2008.
Mrs. Zacca migrated to Edmonton 23 years ago where she lived with her son, Ameen and his
wife Lilieth.
She went to Jamaica from Choifait, Lebanon, when she was a young lady. She met and married
Haleem Zacca and they had 5 children, Ameen, Antoinette (Mrs. McWhinnie Card), Odette
(Mrs. Howard Wright), Michael and Jean (Tulloch). She leaves behind several grand-children
, Andre (and wife Betty), Melissa, Margarita, Ameen, Eleana, Earl, Ann-Marie, Patrice,
David (and wife Delvorene) Suzanne and Sharon.
Over the past several years she was not in the best of health but she just kept on going as
she had this zest for living. She was actually in the process of moving back to Jamaica
to spend the rest of her reclining years, but it was not destined to be. The good Lord in
all his wisdom, saw that the quality of her life had changed, so he called her home, to a
far better place; where she will no longer have the dis-comfort of pain.
Aunt Laurice, as she was known to most members of the Lebanese community in Jamaica, was one
of the finest chefs that there ever was, and her unique way of making kibbi and kafta was
well known to a lot of people.
She lived a good life and was a dedicated wife, mother and grand-mother, and she will be
greatly missed.
Mommy, you fought a good fight, and your journey was not always easy, but you did the best
you could and God had a record of your good life, and, as a result, he said to you
"Come on home now Laurice, it is suppertime in Heaven, where all of my people are gathered".
(a tribute to our dear mother)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of MRS. DAPHNE J. ZIADIE, in St. Petersburg, Florida on
January 11, 2006.
Mrs. Ziadie who was well known to her childrens' friends as "Mamazee" lived a full and very productive life, both in
Jamaica and in the USA. She is known around the world as the "wonder cake lady" as she was the first person in
Jamaica to have started the trend of decorating wedding cakes with picture perfect designs.
Her designs found their way into many magazines for years.
Mamazee was always young at heart and could do things that ladies half her age would not, or could not do.
Her zest for living was quite unusual.
She never really recovered from the death of her youngest son, Abey, who was killed in Jamaica in January 2000,
but she kept on going.
She leaves behind her two daughters, Dawn (Smatt) and Kaye-Marie (Buckler), grand children and a host of relatives
and friends.
We know for sure that Mamazee will be meeting up with her parents, her husband and two sons in Heaven as she did
all she could to qualify her for residential status.
Good-Bye Mamazee. We know that you ran a difficult and long journey, and did a wonderful job on earth, not only for
your family but for anyone who needed your help, which you gave without counting the cost.
God saw that the quality of your life had changed and thought that it was time for you to join Him and the angels.
Mamazee, you are in a far better place now, no more suffering and no more pain and at least you will be able to walk
around and get things going, even upstairs.
These are the words to an old song which fit in perfectly in Mamazee's case - having lived such a good life,
she will most definitely be shining above!
"Look up in the sky, up toward the Lord, there is a star, brightly
shining far, its shining so bright, from Heaven above, Gee, we're
gonna miss you, Mamazee, everybody sends their love"
